James George (@obviousjim) addresses the emotional response to science fiction technologies as they become reality. Developer of the DepthKit, a volumetric cinema system, James is democratizing a new medium for cinematic expression to equip a generation of filmmakers with new tools for interactive narrative. He has applied this format towards feature films, installations, and software products advancing the art of the moving image.
James was the first artist in residence at Microsoft Research in Seattle; Guest Researcher at Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media; Resident at Eyebeam Art + Technology center; Fellow at the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie Mellon. His work has been exhibited worldwide, including at the MoMA, ZKM, Ars Electronica, Sundance, Tribeca Film Festival, and Barbican Centre. In 2014, he cofounded Scatter, a creative studio dedicated to elevating important stories told in immersive media.
